WAEC Candidates Forced to Write Exams in the Dark

In a shocking turn of events, some students writing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were forced to take their English Language paper in near-total darkness.

The incident took place late at night at a WAEC examination centre in Nigeria, where there was no power supply. With no backup electricity, the students had no option but to rely on lanterns and mobile phone flashlights to write their exams.

This troubling situation was brought to public attention by a user identified as @Omolomo_o, who shared disturbing photos and videos on X (formerly known as Twitter). In the footage, students are seen struggling to read and write under poor lighting conditions.

He wrote: “This is a school WAEC centre in Nigeria currently. They’re writing WAEC right now. It is 9:42pm and students are forced to use lamps to write their English WAEC exam.”

The images quickly went viral, sparking outrage across social media. Many Nigerians expressed deep frustration over the lack of basic infrastructure, especially during such a critical national exam.

This incident underscores the persistent challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector, particularly the unreliable power supply that affects schools nationwide.

As the videos continue to spread, concerned citizens are calling on WAEC officials, the Ministry of Education, and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and prevent future occurrences. No student should ever be made to write an important exam in such deplorable conditions.
