Google Launches AI-Powered Features to Simplify Summer Vacation Planning

Google is rolling out several innovative tools across its Search, Maps, and Gemini platforms, designed to assist users in planning their summer vacations. These new features arrive at a time when travelers are increasingly relying on AI-driven tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT for trip planning.

Google Search is introducing AI Overviews, which will display a concise summary of relevant information at the top of search results. This feature allows users to easily discover travel ideas for specific destinations. For instance, searching for "itinerary for Costa Rica with a focus on nature" will generate tailored trip suggestions.

This feature is currently available for English-language searches in the U.S., accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.

Furthermore, Google is making its Gemini platform’s Gems feature available for free. Gems allow users to create specialized AI assistants for various tasks, including planning vacations. Users can now design a custom trip planner to help choose destinations and recommend packing essentials.

In addition, Google is expanding its price tracking feature to include hotels. Previously, users could monitor flight prices; now they can track hotel prices for specific dates and locations. With the ability to apply filters such as hotel ratings and beach access, users will receive email notifications if the prices drop. This feature will be available globally on mobile and desktop browsers starting this week.

Finally, Google Maps is rolling out a new feature to help users transform their vacation ideas into actionable plans. Often, users take screenshots of places they want to visit but may forget about them. With this new feature, Google Maps makes it easier to organize and use those images as part of a concrete vacation plan.
