Nigerian Strategies to Secure Your Land

As I get more into real estate investments, I’m also learning about the Nigerian way of doing things.

Everything in Nigeria is just... different and special.

There’s a Nigerian way to do business.

There’s a Nigerian way to market.

There’s a Nigerian way for pretty much everything.

So, I’ve been told about two Nigerian strategies to secure your long-term real estate investments.

1. As soon as you buy the land, move in and do some development work, no matter how small.

This is because once workers, blocks, cement, and sand show up at any land, if that land has been sold to multiple people or has issues, the other parties will start showing up to claim their part.

So, by doing a little development work, you’re basically testing the waters to see if anyone will come after you. If they do, you can quickly ask the seller for a refund if the land turns out to have any issues.

2. After you’ve gotten your documents in order from the government, hire someone to contest the land against you.

You take it to court, win, and secure a court judgment confirming that you really own the land.

For me, this second strategy? It's pure madness. My mouth literally dropped when I heard it.

I honestly don’t think I have the heart or energy for such a strategy.

So, guys, what other crazy strategies are you using in Nigeria’s real estate world?

I know Nigeria is like a jungle, where you have to fight your own battles, but come on, aren’t these battles a bit too wild and tough?

Please, educate your sis.

Thank you!
