Davido Sparks Talks of Adeleke Joining APC with New Song
Rumors are swirling around Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke possibly dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerian singer Davido may have just added fuel to the fire.
The whispers of a political shift began after Governor Adeleke and his nephew, Davido, paid a private visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos last month. The visit was low-key but didn’t go unnoticed—especially given the timing, with the 2026 Osun governorship election drawing closer.
Now, Davido has released a new track that’s stirring even more curiosity. Titled “From Umbrella to Broom,” the song uses strong political imagery: the umbrella represents the PDP, while the broom symbolizes the APC. In the lyrics, Davido seems to suggest that switching sides might lead to real progress for Osun State.
He raps in Yoruba, “New broom go sweep better... from umbrella to the broom…” and questions why citizens continue to suffer, hinting at failed promises and hardship. He also criticizes the state of electricity and the ongoing frustration of young Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad.
The lyrics are already making waves, not just for their musical quality but for what they might imply politically. Many are asking: is Davido subtly announcing his uncle’s next political move?
Neither Governor Adeleke nor Davido has officially confirmed any plans to switch parties, but with a major election ahead, the song has certainly added a new layer to the political conversation in Osun State.
