PSG Manager Faces Possible FIFA Ban

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique may be facing a significant ban from coaching duties after a physical altercation with Chelsea forward Joao Pedro during the chaotic aftermath of the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey.

Chelsea dominated the final, cruising to a 3–0 victory over PSG. But the match took an ugly turn in the final minutes when PSG midfielder Joao Neves was shown a red card for yanking Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s hair — a move that sparked tension on the pitch.

Once the final whistle blew, tempers boiled over completely. Players and coaching staff from both sides clashed in a heated post-match scuffle. One particularly shocking moment was captured on video: Luis Enrique is seen placing his hand on Joao Pedro’s neck, after which the Chelsea player fell to the ground.

Enrique later addressed the incident in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, brushing it off as a misunderstanding.
“I’m stupid. He pushed me, I touched him, and he dropped like a stone,” Enrique said. “All I wanted was to stop the fighting.”

He repeated the same stance during his post-match press conference, adding:
“There was too much tension. I was trying to separate players and calm things down. Unfortunately, it escalated.”

Joao Pedro, while attempting to move past the incident, didn’t shy away from criticizing PSG:
“I stepped in to protect Andrey Santos. Then I got pushed. They just don’t know how to lose. But it’s football — we’ll move on and celebrate.”

Despite both parties trying to downplay the clash, FIFA is not taking the matter lightly. According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, the global football authority has launched a formal review of the incident. If found guilty of misconduct, Luis Enrique could receive a time-based suspension that would keep him off the touchline across all levels — domestic and international.

FIFA is expected to issue a decision in the coming days.
