Pope Francis' Health Worsens as He Battles Severe Pneumonia

Pope Francis is hospitalized with double pneumonia. His condition remains serious, though he is responding to treatment.

The Vatican confirmed that the 87-year-old pope’s health has worsened. He is now "more unwell than yesterday" after a prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis. Despite this, he remains alert and spent the day in an armchair, though in more pain than before.

Doctors warned that sepsis, a severe blood infection, remains a major concern. However, as of Friday, there is no sign of sepsis. Francis is responding to the medications prescribed.

The pope, who has chronic lung disease, was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on February 14 after bronchitis worsened. He was later diagnosed with a viral, bacterial, and fungal infection, followed by pneumonia in both lungs.

Doctors emphasized that his recovery will take time. Despite his challenges, the pope will continue to live with his chronic respiratory issues once he returns to the Vatican.
