Peter Obi’s 2027 Campaign Trends on X as Obidient Movement Kicks Off Mobilization

In a significant political development, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, announced the commencement of a partial campaign for Peter Obi's 2027 presidential bid on February 25, 2025. Tanko, who previously served as the spokesperson for the 2023 Obidient Movement, made this announcement via a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "Kindly join us as we share a few moments with each other....... A New Nigeria is POssible."

The Obidient Movement, a political support group that gained prominence during the 2023 elections, has been actively working to strengthen its grassroots structures in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. In November 2024, during a symposium in Onitsha, Anambra State, Dr. Tanko expressed confidence in Obi's potential, emphasizing the movement's commitment to better preparation and strategic organization.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, finished third behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite the outcome, the Labour Party has reaffirmed its commitment to fielding Obi as its candidate for the 2027 elections. Abayomi Arabambi, the party's National Publicity Secretary, stated, "Tinubu is not going to have it easy in 2027; we are bringing Peter Obi back to show we are serious."

In September 2024, Peter Obi appointed Dr. Yunusa Tanko as the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement worldwide, highlighting the movement's dedication to fostering competent leadership and advocating for justice and equity in Nigeria.

As the 2027 elections approach, the Obidient Movement and the Labour Party are intensifying efforts to mobilize support and build a robust political structure aimed at unseating the incumbent administration and actualizing their vision of a "New Nigeria."
