Edo governorship poll: Tribunal reserves judgment in PDP, Ighodalo’s petition

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has reserved judgment in the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, challenging the results of the September 21, 2024 governorship election. The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, concluded the proceedings on Monday, March 3, 2025, after both parties adopted their final written addresses. The date for the judgment will be communicated to the parties by the tribunal’s Secretary.

At the hearing, Dr. Ighodalo made a commanding appearance, as his legal team presented evidence that included 154 BVAS machines, certified true copies of result sheets, and polling unit records. These documents highlighted significant irregularities in the election, such as over-voting, non-serialisation of electoral materials, and errors in the computation of election results by INEC.

Meanwhile, Senator Monday Okpebholo's defense suffered a blow, as INEC, the first respondent in the case, failed to present any witnesses to defend the conduct of the election. The tribunal has now reserved its judgment, with the date to be communicated later.
