Stop Chasing Status—Start Creating Value
If you’re starting from scratch, here’s a hard truth that could save you years: you don’t need to buy your way into powerful circles. You need to build your way in—with value, not vanity.
Today, “networking” has become a buzzword. People throw it around so casually that it’s lost its substance. Paying huge sums to join elite clubs and lounges has become the new hustle. I’ve been invited to some of the most exclusive spaces—places like the IBB Golf Club. I know folks who spend fortunes just to be seen among the “important” crowd.
Let’s be real: it’s not always worth it.
Yes, these places can have their benefits. But what many don’t see is the silent cost—how some people, desperate for inclusion, lose their peace, purpose, and identity trying to fit in.
I can afford to join every prestigious club from Abuja to Ikoyi. But I haven’t, because the real key to influence isn’t your proximity to power—it’s your personal value.
Want to stand before kings? Then be someone kings want to meet.
Don’t rely on who you know. Focus on what you bring to the table. Hone your skill until your work demands attention. Get so good they have no choice but to notice you. Excellence is magnetic—it draws the right people to your doorstep.
Unless you’re sitting on inherited wealth and can afford to play in circles for sport, stop forcing your way into rooms that aren’t ready for you. Earn your seat through substance.
If you come from a background like mine—where nothing came easy—your best weapon is your ability to solve problems, to lead with integrity, and to offer real value.
Be like Joseph in the Bible. He didn’t chase the palace. He solved problems in the prison, and the palace came calling.
Don’t beg for attention. Don’t seek access with empty hands and a hollow head.
Whatever your field—fashion designer, architect, tech expert, chef, builder, or entrepreneur—invest deeply in your growth. Sharpen your talent. Strengthen your character.
If you focus on becoming exceptional, you won’t have to knock on elite doors—they’ll be opened for you.
