AI vs Graphic Designers: Adapt or Get Left Behind
AI go replace graphic designers and artists? E dey craze?
Na the wahala wey dey on our minds lately, right? Look this illustration for instance, I upload my image, and within seconds, ChatGPT give me something that looks like Ghibli studio art style. Just like that!
One of my friends ask me what I think about all this AI matter, especially since she's about to jump into graphic design as a career.
Here’s my take on it...
Back in the day, people fought wars with swords and arrows. Then someone invented guns, and bam, soldiers started fighting with guns and atomic bombs.
But did guns replace soldiers? Nah. Guns just made soldiers more effective. You still need to know how to fight, the strategy behind it, and how to use the weapon.
So if guns didn’t replace soldiers, why do we think AI go wipe out all graphic designers?
Here’s the truth...
AI will replace designers who aren’t ready to adapt. If you're stuck in your ways and don’t want to learn, then yeah, AI will come for you.
But if you're smart, you’ll learn to use AI as a tool to make your design work easier and more effective. If you're a designer, terms like "Prompt Engineer" shouldn't sound strange to you.
On top of the design skills you already have, learn Prompt Engineering.
Adapt, or you’ll be left behind. Simple as that.
